The research work of the department staff is an integral part of the department’s work.
A research plan is approved annually, which includes: the creation of acts for implementation in healthcare practice, publishing activities, publication of articles, holding congresses, training master classes and conferences, reviewing scientific publications, and improving the qualifications of teaching staff at the national and international levels.
Each year, the department’s lecturers supervise 2-3 research projects by resident doctors. Members of the research club participate in national and international conferences each year. Department staff also publish scientific articles with the groups they supervise.
In the 2024–2025 academic year, staff members of the Department of Internal Medicine actively participated in research activities and presented at international and national conferences. Throughout the year, more than 60 oral and poster presentations were given at major scientific and practical forums, including EuroThrombosis & EuroVessels 2024 (Bologna, Italy), the All-Russian Cardiology Forum ‘Healthy Heart Week – 2025’, Astana Hematology Forum 2024, the National Congress of Internal Medicine Specialists, the Central Asian Diabetes Forum, AlmatyHepatology 2025, and others.
Professor Sugraliev A.B. presented a series of oral reports on venous thrombosis, heart failure, arterial hypertension, coagulopathies, and pregnancy complications. A significant number of reports on haematology were prepared by Professor Ramazanova R.M., including presentations at international conferences in Astana, Tashkent, and Shymkent. Professor Mashkunova O.V. presented reports on rheumatology, hepatology, and metabolic diseases at various international forums.
The department staff participated in a number of scientific projects, including the international registries iCaReMe and RUDRA, multicentre clinical studies on adult Still’s disease, as well as projects to improve the outcomes of surgical myocardial revascularisation and the study of patients with SLE. As part of the department’s scientific initiatives, algorithms for managing patients after myocardial revascularisation, modern strategies for combined lipid-lowering therapy, models for managing patients with ischaemic heart disease, clinical charts, and methodological recommendations were developed and implemented in practical healthcare and the educational process. During the year, the department organised more than 20 scientific events, including international conferences, master classes and educational schools. Of particular importance were the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Thrombosis (2024), Key Issues in Internal Medicine (2025), Interdisciplinary Management of Liver Diseases (2025), and the annual conference ‘Haematologist of the 21st Century’.
At the end of the year, Associate Professor Tokbulatova M.O. was awarded the Ibn Sina Order of the 1st degree as part of the republican competition ‘Best Healthcare Specialist – 2025’.
