One of the oldest departments of the Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov is the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which was opened at the end of October 1934. The history of the department is essentially the history of the development of obstetric science, the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel in Kazakhstan.
The founder of the department was Professor Alexander Ivanovich Malinin, who headed the department from 1934 to 1951, did a great job of staffing the department with teaching staff and strengthening the clinical base, and also organized the Republican Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which he headed for 17 years. Scientific research of the staff of the department and professor A.I. Malinin touched upon the problems of organizing obstetric and gynecological care in the Republic, blood transfusions, community-acquired abortions, postpartum septic diseases. Under the guidance of Professor A.I. Malinin defended 9 Ph.D. theses, including KD Utegenova on the topic: “Primary ovarian cancer in clinical and histological aspects” and Kh.E. Murzalieva on the topic: “The course of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period with typhoid fever.”
Yakov Savelyevich Klenitsky, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, who arrived from Leningrad, headed the department from 1951 to 1958. During the head of the department at the Kazakh State Medical Institute, Ya.S. Klenitsky has done a great job of training highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel. The main directions of scientific research were the organization of medical and preventive care for women living in the conditions of distant pasture farming, optimization of diagnosis and treatment of abnormalities of labor, infertile marriage.The experiment studied the role of the nervous system in the onset of malignant diseases, tumors. The students of Y.S. Klenitsky – M.A.Bulina, S.N. Nugmanov, R.S.Amanzholova, Yu.V. Dreizin, N.N. Mezinova – successfully defended their candidate and doctoral dissertations, later headed the departments. S.N. Nugmanov became the first director of the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, which was opened in 1960.
Kamila Dosovna Utegenov, MD, professor, headed the department from 1958 to 1978, student of A.I. Malinin. Doctoral dissertation K.D. Utegenova was devoted to a new direction at that time – the relationship between the mother’s body and the intrauterine fetus and was performed in the laboratories and clinics of Leningrad. 26 Ph.D. thesis were completed and defended under her supervision. Scientific research of the staff of the department was devoted to the prevention and reduction of maternal and perinatal mortality. Among the students of K.D. Utegenova, N.A. Kayupova is very famous in the republic and abroad, who has gone from a graduate student to a professor of the department, director of the Republican Research Center for Maternal and Child Health. N.A. Kayupova was awarded the order “Parasat”, became a People’s Deputy and Senator.
Nadezhda Nikitichna Mezinovad medical sciences, professor, headed the department from 1978 to 1993, then for 20 years was a professor of this department. The main scientific directions of Professor N.N. Mezinova and her students deal with the issues of improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of precancerous processes of the uterus, mammary gland and optimization of pregnancy and childbirth management in women at high risk of perinatal and maternal mortality. 3 doctoral and 22 candidate dissertations were defended under her supervision.
Adebiet Temirbulatovna Raisovad m.s., professor headed the department from 1993 to 1998. The main direction of the research work of Professor A.T. Raisova and her students studied the role of hormonal disorders in the pathogenesis of miscarriage and a number of gynecological diseases. 8 Ph.D. thesis were defended under her supervision.
Aigerim Mzhaverovna Doschanov, MD, professor, was in charge of the department from 1998 to 2008. The scientific direction of the research work of Professor A.M. Doschanova and her students were optimizing methods for diagnosing and treating genital endometriosis, as well as finding methods for determining the state of the uterine scar after cesarean section and indications for vaginal delivery of women with a scar on the uterus. Under her supervision, 3 doctoral and 40 candidate dissertations were defended.
In 2006, the department was restructured, three departments of obstetrics and gynecology № 1, № 2 and № 3 were organized.
Omarova Gulzhakhan Kashkinbaevna. Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 1 from 2006 to 2019. In 2008 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: Systemic disorders in nulliparous women after induced abortion and ways of their correction. Omarova G.K. has more than 140 scientific papers, including 11 rationalization proposals and patents for inventions, poster reports and speeches at international congresses.
Lira Kabbasovna Kaliyevad.m.s., Professor, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2 from 2008 to 2017. L.K. Kalieva’s doctoral dissertation was devoted to the optimization of diagnostic methods, conservative and surgical treatment of genital tuberculosis. The scientific direction of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2 is the improvement of diagnostic methods and treatment of genital endometriosis and the improvement of rehabilitation of women who have undergone emergency hysterectomy during childbirth.
Isenova Saule Shaikenovnad medical sciences, professor, head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2s 2017-2019 Subject of doctoral dissertation: “Pathogenetic mechanisms of development of obstetric and perinatal complications in mycoplasma infection.” More than 180 scientific papers have been published, including in journals with a non-zero impact factor, 2 monographs, 5 methodological recommendations, 1 guide to emergency care in perinatology, 3 textbooks have been published.
Mireeva Alla Evelevnad, MD, Professor, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 3 from 2017-2019. Topic of doctoral dissertation: “Caesarean section and delivery of pregnant women with a scar on the uterus.” Author of 60 scientific works, including 1 teaching aid, 3 methodical recommendations, 5 prepatents for invention.
In September 2019, there was a merger of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology № 1, № 2, № 3.
Gani Zhandiyarovich Bodykov, Ph.D., professor, head of the department from 2019-2021, obstetrician-gynecologist of the highest qualification category, organizer of the highest qualification category. Awarded with badges of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kazakhstan Republics”, ” « For contributions to healthcare » , the medal of the National Medical Association of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Altyn Dariger”, the order “AveVitae”. For special services in the Kazakhstan branch trade union of health workers, he was awarded the badge «For services to the union».
Bishekova Balzira Nagashybaevna medical sciences, professor, acting head of the department since March 2021. Topic of Ph.D. thesis “Features of the formation of the reproductive system in women living in the region of thymus endemic”. Since 2004 – Associate Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, since 2017 the head teacher of the department, since 2019, works as a professor of the department. Bishchekova B.N. author of 92 publications, including 5 textbooks, 3 innovative patents.
Currently, the department employs 25 staff members, including 2 doctors of medical sciences and 8 candidates of medical sciences.
The department trains IV – V year students of the Faculty of General Medicine, Pediatrics, interns and residents in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology. In the educational process, the staff of the department introduced and actively used interactive and innovative teaching methods.

From September 2021 the head of the department of obstetrics and gynecology is Isenova Saule Shaikenovna, MD, professor.
Currently, the department employs 30 staff members, including 4 doctors of medical sciences and 10 candidates of medical sciences.
Students of the IV-VI courses in the specialty “General Medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Dentistry” and residents in the specialty “Obstetrics and Gynecology” are trained at the department. In the educational process, the staff of the department introduced and actively used interactive and innovative teaching methods.
